a song for the weekend

I am totally in love with 'Man Down' by Rihanna.  I have it on constant repeat.

Play it loud this weekend and "rumm pupupupum" along with the lovely lady.  I wish she'd do more Reggie tracks like this!

cherry popping music...?

Can you believe I lost my virginity to the sounds of Meat Loaf? Yep it's true, memories of that significant event will always come flooding back to me when Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell album is played. Specifically the track, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad. Ahhh so romantic - pftt!

Actually 'the event' wasn't significant at all, unless you count someone turning red like a pig above you... In fact I was so unimpressed by it all that I went on a bit of a mission to discover what all the fuss was about - because that was certainly not it! But on the plus side, I was glad to get it over and done with, and so pleased it wasn't with someone whom I was going to have a relationship with. I don't buy all this saving yourself crap. Why can't girls be like boys and just have fun with it all? I certainly did, it was great fun, and I have no regrets.

So what song did you pop your cherry to, or was it just the sounds of nature...?

under the pink

Watching The Voice last night, after the awful Viktoria Bolonina (though I actually did like  her scaly green sparkle lizard dress) sang Smells Like Teen Spirit (always hated that song, Delta what were you thinking?)... Delta compared her to being reminiscent of Tori Amos - WTF??!!

I'd forgotten that I had this little gem of a CD and immediately had to play it.  Under the Pink is choc full of gorgeous songs - I can't believe I haven't played it for so long (10+ years!!!).  I use to fall asleep to this album (in a soothing, lull me to sleep way).

So I've just have loaded the songs on to my iphone and will definitely add this to my current play list. How can anyone not love Cornflake Girl?

Viktoria, sorry love, you are NOT anything like Tori, and never will be.

The lovely Tori Amos (a while back)
Under the Pink - super dooper!

my musical genius

I know it's boring when someone waffles on about something you're not interested in, but... I can't help it. I have to gush some more about my absolute favourite singer in the world... Yes, I'm talking about Prince!

Ever since seeing him in concert again, last Friday night, I feel like my 18 year old self again. Totally Obsessed!

I was so completely over excited on the way to the concert, I can't remember the last time I felt so naturally high! And of course his Purple Highness didn't disappoint. He was amazing and even better than when I saw him at Wembly in London years ago. A real musical genius. It's hard to comprehend how one person can be so talented. I stood and danced and sang and clapped and screamed and fantasized. Total rapture.

Watching him writhe around with his guitar, just gets me every time... Although he is small and not particularly attractive, he just oozes sex and a love of women. No one else does it like him. And it's bloody hot! And when he sings dirty... well...

So my iPod has played nothing but Prince ever since.

Here's my top albums/song picks:

Dirty Minds (every song is brilliant)

Parade (u need another lover like u need a hole in your head, Under the Cherry Moon, Sometimes it Snows in April)

Purple Rain (Darling Nikki, Computer Blues and Beautiful Ones)

Sign of the Times (Starfish and Coffee, the Ballard of Dorothy Parker and Sign of the Times, If I was your Girlfriend, I Could Never Take the Place of your Man)

1999 (Lady Cab Driver and International Lover)

Around the World in a Day (especially Pop Life and Ladder)

Controversy (Private Joy, Jack u off, Controversy)

Alphabet Street (Alphabet Street, Anna Stasia)

Diamonds and Pearls (Get Off and Money Don't Matter 2 Night)

Black Album (a bit hit and miss)

The 80s/90s was such a cool time for music, Prince, The Cure, The Smiths... The soundtrack to my teenage years. What bloody fun we had!

common people

I love, love, love this album. It's in my top five of all time. I love every single song.
Such a shame Pulp split and Jarvis lost some of his brilliance. But this album is pop perfection and it is the soundtrack to a fantastic period in my life. Every song is a story, a masterpiece of wit, sarcasm, reality, love and life.

If you haven't got this in your collection, download it and play it loud!

Pulp. Different Class. Brilliant.

abandon yourself to the music

When was the last time you really let yourself go?  Not in a drunken, out of it, silly way, I mean totally abandoning yourself to music and dancing? Not to look good, or just to the rhythm of the beat, but because you feel the music pumping in your veins and can't help but you move with it.

The closest I come to that nowadays, is when I go for the (very) occasional run at night, with my iPod belting it out, in my head I'm in a club dancing (yes, this is how I motivate myself to jog).

The fleeting memory of days before monogamous relationships and children, clubbing, in the early hours of the morning, in London somewhere, hot, sweaty, breathless and just moving with hundreds of other bodies, feeling them move against you, someones breath on your neck, dancing up close from behind, the opportunity, the spontaneity, the freedom... God, I loved it! I do miss it sometimes.

Here are ten songs that take me back and make me want to lose myself (some dance, some chill out)...

Underworld - Born Slippy
Moby - Porcelain
Lily Allen - Friend of Mine
Robert Miles - Children
Bjork - Come to Me
Pulp - Sorted for Es and Whizz
Massive Attack -  Protection
Body Rockers - I like the Way
Jimmy Sommerville & Marc Almond - Johnny/Remember Me
Faithless - Insomnia

What songs do it for you?
