change is in the wind...

I think I’m going to stop writing this blog. I have lost interest and want to spend less time on computers and gadgets.  So this may be my last post.

Since our return from such an amazingly beautiful week at Heron Island, I have felt unsettled. I sulked for a week once we got home unable to accept suburban living, we all did.

Now I am left feeling like the way we all live our lives is so out of whack with nature and what is really important. Self-obsession, celebrity, vanity, greed, consumerism, keeping up with the Jones’… It’s all wrong. I am craving a more simple life.

I’m not into religion or spiritual bollocks, but I do strongly believe that as humans we do feel more fulfilled and we have more sense of purpose, when we are living surrounded by and appreciating nature. When we take time to actual feast our eyes on the real beauty of what is all around us - trees and clouds, the stars and sea. The world is an amazing place and the animals and marine creatures that live on it are incredible. They are inspirational and humbling. And it breaks my heart that we are destroying their habitat, killing them for trinkets, ‘medicine’ or health supplements. That we are enslaving them for our amusement in zoos and parks, and we are polluting the environment so that in years to come there will be nothing left and the sea will only contain slime.

Seeing hundreds of baby turtles hatch multiple times a day, and having the privilege to witness turtles lay their eggs, swimming with reef sharks and diving with a huge majestic manta ray, watching eagle rays soar into the sky and dive into the ocean, being surrounded by schools of beautiful fish, spotting bizarre alien-like marine creatures, watching shooting stars and walking in electric blue moonlight – these are the things that make me feel alive!

I want my kids to be influenced by people who are making a difference with their lives, who support causes and fight for change. People, who follow their passions and dreams, not people who are just motivated by money, power and a career in an office.  At Heron Island we met young people who had done more than most people do in a lifetime – participating in research trips to view wild Orcas or tag sharks and manta rays, spending time in Antarctica volunteering on environmental programmes, crewing on Sea Shepherd boats to save whales and dolphins from being slaughtered by the Japanese…

I want to make a difference. I want to be a role model for my kids and introduce them to another way of life. While living in the UK for my formative years, I was so ignorant of world issues and environmental causes. Travelling opened my eyes and now living here in Australia, living by the sea and being able to see the difference people can make (good and bad) makes me want to choose a different life - one that makes me feel fulfilled, one that matters.

Or, maybe I’m just having a mid-life crisis and turning into a hippy!

today I am wearing...

I have a client meeting today so I can slip on a pair of heels - yay! I can't be bothered to go too formal, so smart casual it is.

I'm wearing a Mix Apparel dress, Tony Bianco metal point heels and a vintage 70s chain mail pendant (it was my mum's and I use to love sitting on her lap and fiddling with it, loving how it's linked over my fingers).

golden globes

I've been off blogging for a bit. Christmas and New Year and my Dad finally passing away into his endless sleep all got in the way and to be honest I just didn't feel like it or have much to say...

But it's the Golden Globes!

Of course I'm watching! I love the glitz and glamour. All the lovely dresses and stars. How can I resist selecting my favourite red carpet looks?! So far I must say I haven't seen any shockers (actually Jen Law looks the a meringue - very disappointing!).

Here are my top looks (in no particular order)...

Sofia does old time big busted glamour beautifully in this over-the-top-but-I-love-it,
Zac Posen gown. And that necklace? It looks fabulous nestled above those
quivering, don't you want to rest your face in them, boobs!

Emma Roberts gets 10/10.  I LOVE IT ALL! Perfect.

Kate Beckinsale never puts a foot wrong. Love this hot metallic strapless
Zuhair Murad dress.

Classy ice queen Cate looks simply perfect in Armani Prive.
Amy Adams, my girl crush, I love you Miss Hottie, in Valentino

Lovely Leslie Mann all coy and ready to be unwrapped!

Lupia Nyong'o simple and stunning in red Ralph Lauren.

Sandra Bullock looking flawless in Prabal Gurung. Didn't like it at first but now I do,
it moves beautifully and sets her cleavage off a treat (even if it is a bit
Liquorice Allsort inspired...)

a storm in an a cup

I went bra shopping today. Who would of thought buying a bra when you're flat chested would be so bloody difficult?! Well I tell you it is! Flipping hard. There are choices galore for huge baps, with cups as big as hats, but ask for the small breasted selection and pfft! Nothing. Do all women have massive tits nowadays? Is everyone a D or an E? Even the A cups are designed for full, pert, round hooters!

Maybe I should start designing bras for women who only have skin to hold up! The 'I breast fed my knockers away to nothing but skin and just need something to hide my sticky-outy nipples' section.

I spent over two hours trying on bras and eventually came away with two black training bras! One cotton and one lace. Designed for Tweens! How sad is that?

I'm just sick of wearing uncomfortable padding. I feel like I'm taking off a pair of fake tits everytime I take off my bra. And they are so uncomfortable! I'm happy to be bra-less most of the time, but there are occasions when, as a 40-year-old mother of two, it's just not an appropriate look.

Yes I could of choosen one of those horrible nylon bras that look like a pair of tights (or pantyhose). Ugly as fk. Or just bought yet another pretty A cup that does nothing at all other than remind me that I have 'no filling' for the cups! But that's crap! Really, is it too much to ask for a reasonably priced, pretty, lacy, simple, comfortable, non-under wired bra that is for a flat chest? Ugh. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get implants...

today I am wearing...

This is the forth and final dress purchased from the Supre $5 sale. A classic one shoulder black jersey maxi (that awful word again!). A bloody bargain. And it's the right length for me which is a rarity. Normally long dresses are way too long (because I'm a short arse) and I can never be bothered with re-hemming. Today I'm wearing the dress with thongs, but it'd be nice with heels too.

I had a very quick browse in a few shops today, but there was nothing that caught my eye at all. So now I have that disappointed, I-wanted-to-buy-something-but-didn't sulky feeling. Ugh. All the shoes are awful too. Ugly, ugly shoes a plenty. It's not very often that I'm not longing for a new pair. It feels a bit odd not to be obsessing over a new pair of heels. Maybe because I have my beautiful Christian Louboutin Pigalles, I am complete... Ummm. Give it time...

3 of the 4

This dress is a bit of a different look for me, but for $5, I thought I'd give it a go. This is item number three from the Supre $5 sale (see last weeks post). It's super dooper comfy on and I love that I don't need a bra, due to the low sides, so it's great for summer.

Little Miss L wasn't impressed though and asked if I'd do the 'drop and go' at school rather do than our normal walk into the playground for a kiss goodbye. I asked her why and she wouldn't answer. Then it suddenly hit me that she didn't like my outfit. I asked her if she was embarrassed by me, or what I was wearing and she just cringed and said, "I just don't want you to come in Mum!"

Bloody charming! Do all mothers embarrass their kids at some point?  Mine did because they were old, they stood out and I hated them coming to school. I never really thought I'd embarrass mine though, other than the normal growing up and not wanting to be seen hanging around your parents stage.  I said to Miss L, "Imagine if I was fat and wore ugly shoes and horrible frumpy dresses! Look around you - I'm a cool Mummy!".  She still wasn't impressed, just shrugged her shoulders and made me promise not to go beyond the entrance gates!

today I am wearing...

Happy Monday peeps. The weekend went way to quick. I gorged myself on too much food and over did it.  Lime and passion fruit cheesecake, custard filled profiteroles, crispy seaweed, and such a mouth wateringly good curry - yum! (Not so good the morning after when I felt like curry stench was seeping out of all my pores!)

To hide my gluttony, today I am wearing dress two (of four) from the Supre $5 Sale. This one is so super comfy on (and I don't need a bra which is always a bonus). I am fighting the urge to go back and see if I missed any other $5 bargain styles... I must stay strong. I don't need any more!

primal hunger or just an itch to scratch?

Lots of sex talk this weekend, discussing likes and dislikes. It's so bloody fascinating isn't it.  No matter how old you are, the evolution of needs, wants and preferences is just one of those topics I could discuss for hours on end. It amazes me what a huge spectrum there is, from prudish to extreme, and everything in between.

I have just finished reading Nikki Gemmell's I Take You. It was okay. Her books are getting a little repetitive and silly, but I read it quickly and it got me thinking about what is 'normal' nowadays. It also made me question my own preferences and what is and isn't off limits, because I hate think I'm missing out on something, but then again, I don't feel the pressure to 'explore' any more. I've been there and done most of it. I know what I like and what I absolutely don't. To be honest, I'm glad I'm not in that phase of my life where you have to experiment and challenge and push boundaries.

I guess the thing that I am most surprised by, is that age doesn't necessarily dampen a persons sex drive. I presumed, naively, that as you got older you'd want 'it' less, but from talking to others (people of all ages), that isn't the case.

mid life tantrums

Do you suffer from tantrums? I do. I had one this morning. After spending a lovely restlessful couple of hours, reading, topping up my tan by the pool. I came inside for lunch, discovered my first born had been reading all morning and outspewed a rant about homework and deadlines and getting your priorities right (like a bloody broken record). Then I accidentally knocked the cheesy biscuits tin off the side of the kitchen counter and we both stood in silence for a moment, staring at the broken biscuits all over the floor, waiting for my reaction to come... would it be nice mummy or horrible mummy?

My thoughts were, one, take a deep breath, laugh, say, "Opps silly mummy!" and sweep them up. Two, erupt. I chose two. I couldn't contain it. Really, I couldn't. And out it came! Wooosh! Nasty, childish, horrible words and accusations and fault blaming. All directed at my clever, polite, sweet, but not-as-on-top-of-his-assignments-as-he-could-be, boy. Oh dear. I've said it before, but sometimes I do think I should of just stuck to raising cats...

nymphomaniac

Actors showing us their orgasmic faces to promote Lars Von Thier's new movie Nymphomaniac (Lars produced the controversial film Idiots in 98). Very effective and intriguing. I like them. I like the simple design of the images. The posters combined with Shia LaBeouf telling MTV News that the A Lister's would engage in real sex for the camera, has resulted in a lot of media coverage about this movie (it turns out they have cast porn actors for the real sex bits).

So where do you stand on actual sex in movies, mainstream movies, not porn...? By that I mean proper movies that have story lines but also real sex scenes, rather than films just about the sex.

I'm undecided. No. Actually I think it's unnecessary. It turns a film, however good/arty the story into a porn film. Just a more 'high brow' one. It complicates the film and in some cases feels wrong, like you're perving on someone's most intimate moments. I feel it also crosses some kind of line with the actor too. Do we really need to see someone famous getting off whilst 'acting'?

I really enjoyed Caligula, the film starring Peter O'Toole, Helen Mirren and Malcolm McDowell. I first saw the uncut version in Amsterdam in the early 90s. A good film, but with porno bits and a big mass orgy.

And, 9 Songs, the 2006 film which features sex, masturbation, oral and ejaculation. A story about a normal couple and their relationship. Again, a good film, but it's still porn really. Would the film have even made headlines if it didn't have explicit footage? And I've never seen the actors in anything else.

There have been a few others too, mainly European, but the English ones, you may have heard of include, Romance, Intimacy, Shortbus, Ken Park, and of course, Brown Bunny featuring Chloe Sevigny giving a blow job...(totally over rated!).

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I think some things are better left to your imagination. I find the subject of sex immensely fascinating and I am not anti porn at all (although there are limits and boundaries) but, I think in film, it's just to get attention.

ALMAS

Love these two looks from the ALMA Awards in LA. Especially Jessica Alba's sequin skirt and shirt combo. Nice.

Emmy red carpet misses

And now for my not so favourite looks. They are not ghastly, just not my cup of tea... Sorry ladies.

Zosia Mamet. The black 'bra' shape ruins this otherwise
ok dress! I just don't like the top section at all.

Lena Headey. WTF are those shoes? Not right at all. And
the dress reminds me of a lacy bodystocking from the 80s.

Amanda Peet. What a mess! The crap hair, ugly sandals
and too much going on and not working at all dress!

Julianne Hough.  I would love this dress if I couldn't
see your granny pants! All I can look at is your gusset.

Emmy red carpet winners

So we're almost at the end of the 2013 Emmy Awards. Have you been watching live? I have, on and off. I can't help myself. But I'm annoyed and have to admit I shouted at the screen when Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston missed out on their awards. They were ROBBED!  I am a HUGE Breaking Bad fan. There is no, and will never be, a better show! They deserved to bloody win! GRRRR...

Anyway back to the point. Fashion. Dresses. Beautiful people. Lots of likes this year. No real shockers. I'm impressed. No amazing or awful stand outs, just lots of pretty outfits.

In no particular order, here are my favs.

Claire Danes in Armani. Needs a bit pendant, but nice.

Julie Bowen. Love it. Perfect for the Emmys.

Kerry Washington in Marchesa. Wedding dressy but pretty.

January Jones. Very nude and plain, but nice.

Rose Byrne. Rose is always gorgeous. Flawless.

Malin Akerman. A bit wedding dressy but I like it.

Sarah Paulson. Classy.

Kiernan Shipka. Young and pretty and wearing perfect shoes.

Alison Williams. Plain and simple but love the colour.

Alyson Hannigan.  Love her in purple.

today I am wearing...

A maxi. I felt like wearing something long and floaty today, after all the lovely fashion week dresses and cause the sun's out and it's warm and summery. (BTW - can I just say I'm really not keen on the term 'maxi' dress. Am I the only one who thinks of 'maxi pad'?! You know the post birth nappy pads that feel like you have a loaf of bread between your legs...??)

I picked up this blue sun dress in Target yesterday. Off the clearance rack (of course!) for only $10 down from $49! It's perfect for the hot, humid summer season, I'll wear it a lot, especially when lounging at home. It's super cool (as in temperature) and comfy. I quite like the colour too. I don't normally wear bright blue.

Crepe cotton sun dress from Target. Was $49. Mine for $10.

cicciolina

I remember Cicciolina, the Hungarian-born Italian porn star turned politician (fronting the Party of Love). She made the news in the late 80s/early 90s for going into parliament with one boob on display, wearing pink and white lacy underwear as outerwear and riding around on a white horse. But it was in Amsterdam (with my boyfriend at the time), that I really got to see her in action (ahem). She 'acted' a particularly memorable scene with a red lolly pop... I was there, of course, to indulge in the city's highlights, including the hotel porn channel, seedy red light district with its live and video booth shows, smoky bars and beautiful cafes. What can I say? I was young and up for anything (well almost).

Anyway, dear Miranda has donned a blonde wig and channelled her inner Ciccolina for V Magazine #85. Miranda is much prettier than the real deal and has a better set of baps (just saying!) but I'm not keen on her as a blond.

This is how I collect my dozen freshly laid eggs in the morning too!

The real Ciccolina. Funny, Tony Bianco have fringed
heels like that on sale at the moment. Don't like them.
